Just Over a Week Now

5/31/2010

So it has been just over a week of my dogs on their new diet of human grade meats, veggies, fruits, nuts and various other ingredients.  They are doing most excellent on it and thoroughly enjoying it.  Remember that this is all raw here, nothing cooked, the way it should be.

This morning I fed them raw hamburger with and egg and some alfalfa and kelp powder and a side of chicken thigh.  Normally I mix a bit of pulped veggies and fruits but didn't this morning.  My experience has been good.  I thought it might be a bit inconvenient but it hasn't now that I've got the hang of it.  It takes me between 3-5 minutes to mix it up in their dish.

So an important thing to remember is variety is the key.  I'm feeding various kinds of meats with hamburger being the main meat most days.  Lots of different veggies and fruits pulped and usually an egg and some virgin olive oil tossed in for good measure.  I'm going to look into picking up some other types of oils that are good for them.

Good day to everyone and happy feedings.

Legs and Burgers

So the last few days I've been giving my dogs a couple raw chicken legs each a day and today a raw hamburger pattie each.  They are getting very accustomed to the raw diet.  I'm slowly transitioning them and it is going well.  I am still feeding them their dry food in the morning to finish it off and get them used to the raw stuff in the meantime.  I'm hoping to have them moved totally to the new diet in the next 10 to 14 days.  More to come.

Good Deal on a Freezer

So I purchased a 5 cubic foot freezer at a good price yesterday.  This will be used to buy the meat in bulk in order to knock the price down.  My goal is to get the cost of feeding them a raw, natural diet down to or cheaper than what I currently pay for the premium dry dog food I currently have my dogs on now.  More to come.

I've been studying a bit more on nutrition for my dogs and cat.  I'm getting ready to transition them to a more natural diet.  I will be posting all the updates, videos and details on this blog I've started.  Stay tuned for more details.
